A dealer that we were collecting data from was under suspicion by the oil company that supplied him. The engineer contacted ES&H and requested that we supply them with the monthly inventory collected from the dealer. He asked that we include total monthly deliveries. In order for the inventory to look "normal" the dealer had to "fudge" the numbers that he supplied ES&H including delivery amounts. When the delivery amounts supplied were checked against the delivery tickets the oil company found discrepancies. Upon investigation, the engineer discovered that the dealer was removing product from the Regular tank and putting it in the Super tank to improve profit margins.
